  • World Disability Day

    December 03, 2012, Chittorgarh

    World Disability Day will be celebrated at CUTS CHD office on 3rd December 2012 jointly by CUTS and Mewar Viklang Sewa Sansthan. CUTS-CHD is running “Community Bases Rehabilitation Program” in Nimbahera and Chittorgarh blocks of Chittorgarh District with the support of Sightsavers . Approximately 150 disabled persons will participate in this function. District level Government officials from concerned departments have also been invited. In the program disabled persons will share their views and success stories. Mewar Viklang Sewa Sansthan will share their contribution and planning for the rights and benefits of disabled persons. Government officials and CUTS staff will tell how disabled persons can take benefit of Government schemes.

    Keeping in mind the growing importance of eco-labels in T&C sector, the challenges posed by their compliance/non-compliance and their possible impact on the export interests of the sector, CUTS along with its knowledge partners the Textile Committee of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and Nimkar Tek Services Pvt Ltd are undertaking this programme for Indian T&C firms in five major textile centres in India, viz. Delhi (national capital region), Mumbai, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad and Ludhiana.

    CUTS International in partnership with support from The Asia Foundation is organising a half-day Stakeholder Consultation on Promoting Participatory Approaches for Removing Regional Trade Barriers in South Asia in Chandigarh on December 14, 2012.

    The objective of the mentioned consultation is to elicit the views and concerns of business community about non-tariff barriers (including procedural NTBs) hindering intra-regional trade and how to overcome them and prepare an advocacy agenda for the removal/harmonisation of non-tariff barriers between South Asian countries.

    Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) is organising a National Conclave on consumer issues at India Habitat Center in New Delhi on October 11-12, 2012 under the project titled ‘Indian Consumers in the New Age: A Forward Looking Agenda to Address the Concerns of the Common People’ (ConsumersUp).

    More than 100 participants from various states in India are expected to attend the conclave. Hon’ble Minister of State for Consumer Affairs (I/C), Government of India, Prof. K.V.Thomas has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest and agreed to formally release the ‘State of the Indian Consumer Report 2012’ October 11, 2012. Main objective of the conclave is to disseminate and discuss the key findings of the field research on the “State of the Indian Consumers” conducted under the project.

  • National Policy Forum Promoting Business Responsibility in Pharmaceutical and Private Healthcare Sectors in India

  • Dissemination Workshop on State of the Kenyan Consumer 2012

    The launch of the “State of the Kenyan Consumer 2012” by CUTS Nairobi scheduled for 6th September 2012 is expected to catalyse nationwide policy discussions on the need for development of a sound consumer protection regime in Kenya that conforms to international standards for the welfare of all Kenyan citizens. The report articulates the current state of consumer welfare in Kenya vis-à-vis the eight ‘consumer rights’ enshrined in the UNGCP. It also encloses analysis from a perception survey of consumers across five sectors namely: water, public transport, electricity, telecommunication and public healthcare.

  • Workshop on Strengthening and Enabling the Voluntary Sector

    The meeting is designed to mutually share and learn from each other about the challenges faced by the sector. On one hand many laws are either being formulated or are being implemented arbitrarily by the enforcement agencies. The information of such changes rarely reaches the small and medium sized groups, and they become victim of information gap. On the other, the sector is also facing new challenges as far as financial resources are concerned.

The event is primarily aimed at raising awareness amongst consumers on the benefits of competition law and how they can use it to address their challenges.

    The achievements of BRICS since the first Leaders Summit held in Yekaterinburg have been significant. With the Delhi Declaration, the mandate has evolved from coordinating positions and sharing ideas on formulating a response to the global financial crisis to one which encompasses a much broader spectrum of themes with specific implementable goals. The ORF-CUTS Seminar will seek to answer some of the technical questions related to such recent developments on trade, investment and finance in order to provide policy inputs for BRICS members around operational frameworks.

    CUTS Centre for Human Development (CUTS CHD) at Chittorgarh was established in the year 1990 to facilitate intervention process for ‘community-based action programmes’ at the grassroot level. Among its many rural empowerment programmes, it has formed more than 800 SHG with the support from NABARD (410 in Bhilwara and 418 in Chittorgarh) out of which 85% are of women, and 28 SHGs are of persons with disabilities (including the blind).
