The CUTS Centre for Competition Investment & Economic Regulation (C-CIER) is collaborating with the Competition Administration Department, Ministry of Trade of Vietnam, to organise a national conference on competition and consumer protection issues in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the 20th of March 2006, within the framework of its project entitled “Advocacy and Capacity Building on Competition Policy and Law in Asia” (7Up2 Project), in the occasion of the World Consumer Rights’ Day (15th of March).

The 7Up2 project is a multi-stakeholder initiative, supported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Switzerland (SECO), the Swiss Competition Commission (COMCO), and the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, aimed at accelerating the process towards a functional competition policy and law for selected countries in Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Bangladesh, Nepal and India) and advancing an enabling environment for the law and policy to be better enforced. This conference is one of the various awareness raising and capacity building activities, which have been and are being undertaken in the second phase of the project.

The meeting expects to draw the participation of more than 100 delegates, from various government agencies, consumer associations, civil society organisations and the media, of the cities and provinces from all over Vietnam.
