Consumer Unity & Trust Unity Zambia has called on the Zambian government to open up the telecommunication sector to allow more players.

CUTS Zambia Chapter Board Chairperson Ambassador Love Mtesa says that the telecommunication sector needs to be opened up so that more players can enter the sector.

Dr. Mtesa notes that he current situation where there are few players in the market can encourage issues to do with price fixing and formation of cartels.

Dr. Mtesa has since urged the Zambian government through Zambia Information and telecommunication Technology ZICTA and Zambia Competition Commission ZCC to consider bringing in other players in the market so that fully flagged competition can be experienced.

And Dr. Mtesa has called on the Zambian government to resuscitate the investment act.

Dr. Mtesa says that Zambian investors are given to many incentives such as tax holidays with the option of externalizing 100% of profits without any restrictions.

He notes that investors have ended up exploiting the incentives to the disadvantage of Zambians.

The CUTS board chairperson has also expressed concern on a number of unfair trading practices that have gone unnoticed.
