The Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) Zambia has observed that the economic partnership agreement EPAs have already drained too much of the nation’s resources.
Speaking in an interview with Qfm, CUTS acting National Coordinator, Simon N’gona says that Zambia has to be very cautious before entering into any of the looming trading agreements.
Mr. N’gona says that it is critical that the agreements are made based on a developmental understanding and made for the benefit of every player.
He says that it will be useless for the nation to open up its market to the European community which is stronger and more prepared to thrive in this agreement when the supply side constraints have not been addressed.
He explains that the government is not ready to address constraints that may hamper the nation from benefiting from the EPAs.
Mr. N’gona has however emphasized the need to ensure that the agreements if signed, remain developmental to the developing countries.
