Climate & Freedom Roundtable Advocates Market Solutions
COP28 side event by the Grace Richardson Fund (GRF) and CUTS International, the "Climate & Freedom Roundtable" explored frameworks for an International Free Market Climate Agreement. Discussions delved into the impact of subsidies, cautioning against over-subsidisation pitfalls exemplified by U.S. experiences.
The discourse advocated transitioning from outdated tools like tax credits to fostering innovation-driven competitiveness. A proposed alternative, the Capital Acceleration Mechanism, links tax cuts to emissions reduction goals. CUTS Lusaka's Sajeev Nair stressed the Global South's perspective on fair trade and climate finance, urging attention to Southern countries in the discourse. Dr Vaibhav Chaturvedi highlighted the necessity of balancing efficiency and equity in climate discussions amid evolving global trends.
