Building the Foundations for Inclusive and Trustworthy AI
Final Day Highlights
 
The concluding day of the AI for Good Summit focused on the practical foundations required to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) is developed and deployed in ways that are inclusive, trustworthy and beneficial to society. Across discussions on human-centred AI, women's leadership, digital infrastructure, international standards and open-source AI for governments, participants highlighted that the future of AI will depend not only on technological innovation but also on strong institutions, effective governance, interoperable standards, inclusive leadership and sustained investment in digital infrastructure.
Empowering Individuals through Human-Centred AI
 
The keynote session, "The New PC: From Personal Computer to Personal Construct," presented a vision for the next generation of human-centred computing based on personalised AI agents and open, modular architectures. Rather than relying on a single AI assistant, the discussion explored ecosystems of specialised AI agents capable of collaborating on complex tasks while adapting to individual users' preferences and preserving privacy, autonomy and flexibility.

Participants highlighted the importance of separating personalised AI agents from the underlying language models so that users can retain their accumulated knowledge, workflows and digital identities irrespective of changes in AI models or technology providers. Open and interoperable AI architectures were also presented as a means of reducing dependence on proprietary platforms while encouraging collaborative innovation and giving users greater control over their own AI environments.
Advancing Women's Leadership in AI
 
The session "Advancing Women's Leadership in AI and Standards" emphasised that greater gender diversity is essential for developing AI systems that are more inclusive, ethical and responsive to societal needs.

Participants agreed that achieving meaningful progress requires more than expanding technical education. Greater access to mentorship, leadership opportunities, financing and supportive institutional policies was identified as essential to increasing women's participation in AI research, entrepreneurship, standards development and policymaking. The discussion also underscored that governments, industry, academia, investors and standards organisations all share responsibility for creating more inclusive AI ecosystems and ensuring that women play a stronger role in shaping emerging technologies.
Building the Digital Foundations for AI
 
The session "AI for Digital Infrastructure: Advancing Connectivity and Closing the Digital Divide" examined how AI can support evidence-based planning and accelerate the expansion of digital infrastructure.

Participants highlighted that AI-powered analytics can combine geospatial, demographic and connectivity data to identify underserved communities, prioritise investments and strengthen infrastructure planning. The discussion reaffirmed that affordable broadband, cloud infrastructure, data centres and secure communications networks remain essential foundations for AI adoption and digital transformation.

Participants also stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity, promoting internationally harmonised technical standards and expanding financing, technical assistance and capacity building to help low- and middle-income countries bridge persistent digital infrastructure gaps and participate more fully in the digital economy.
Embedding Human Rights into AI Standards
 
The session "From Human Rights Principles to ICT and AI Standards" explored how internationally recognised human rights principles can be translated into practical technical standards for AI and digital technologies.

Participants emphasised that human rights considerations should be integrated throughout the AI lifecycle—from system design and implementation to monitoring and continuous improvement. The discussion also highlighted the importance of proportionate governance frameworks, transparent documentation, ongoing assessment of AI's impacts and broad participation by governments, international organisations, industry, academia, civil society and technical experts in standards development.

International cooperation was recognised as essential for ensuring that AI standards remain interoperable, responsive to technological change and consistent with internationally recognised human rights principles.
Supporting Trustworthy AI in the Public Sector
 
The session "Trustworthy GENIE.AI as an Open-Source Foundation for Public Sector GenAI" introduced an International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-led open-source framework designed to support governments in developing trustworthy generative AI applications for public services.

Participants emphasised that AI systems supporting government services should be built upon transparency, accountability, explainability, security and ethical governance. The discussion highlighted that open-source approaches can help governments retain ownership and control over sensitive public information while reducing dependence on proprietary platforms, encouraging collaborative innovation and strengthening local AI ecosystems.

Speakers also stressed that successful deployment of public-sector AI requires robust cybersecurity, effective governance structures, common standards and meaningful human oversight, particularly where AI systems influence decisions affecting citizens' rights or access to public services.

The discussions on the concluding day highlighted several priorities for advancing AI for public good:
