Building Trustworthy AI for Education, Mobility and Sustainable Development
Day 2 Highlights 
 
The second day of the AI for Good Summit focused on one of the defining challenges for artificial intelligence: building public trust while harnessing AI to advance education, mobility and sustainable development. Across discussions on digital skills, learning, autonomous transport and critical infrastructure, participants agreed that the successful adoption of AI will depend not only on technological innovation but also on trusted governance, human oversight and international cooperation.
Preparing Future Generations for the AI Economy
 
The session on Building AI and Robotics Education Projects in Africa highlighted the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an AI-driven world. Participants emphasised that expanding digital infrastructure, improving school connectivity and strengthening teacher capacity are essential to creating inclusive AI education ecosystems.

Rather than focusing solely on technology, the discussion underscored the importance of experiential learning through robotics, project-based education and strong partnerships among governments, international organisations, educational institutions and technology companies. Such collaboration was recognised as critical to developing sustainable pathways for innovation and digital transformation across Africa.

 
Reimagining Education in the Age of AI
 
The session Teaching for Deeper Learning in a World with AI explored how education systems can integrate AI while preserving the uniquely human dimensions of learning. Participants stressed that AI should support—not replace—teachers by enabling richer, learner-centred educational experiences.

The discussion highlighted the need to move beyond traditional examinations towards assessments that reward critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving. As AI becomes increasingly capable of generating information, education systems must place greater emphasis on developing learners' judgement, adaptability and lifelong learning skills.

 
Building Trust in AI for Critical Infrastructure
 
Trust emerged as a central theme across multiple sessions examining the deployment of AI in safety-critical sectors.

The panel on Safety, Ethics, Infrastructure and the Road to Public Trust emphasised that public confidence depends on AI systems operating safely, predictably and transparently. Participants noted that trustworthy AI requires more than technical excellence—it also depends on robust governance, ethical oversight, organisational accountability and effective communication that enables users to understand how AI systems operate and where their limitations lie.

These themes were reinforced during the session on Towards Trustworthy Autonomous Railways, where speakers demonstrated how AI, digital twins and computer vision technologies can enhance railway safety and operational efficiency. However, they emphasised that autonomous systems must undergo rigorous testing, validation and certification before deployment, ensuring that innovation strengthens rather than compromises existing safety standards.

 
Advancing Safe and Connected Mobility
 
The Future Networked Car Symposium, jointly organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), examined how connected and autonomous mobility is reshaping the future of transportation.

Participants highlighted the importance of internationally harmonised standards, regulatory cooperation and rigorous testing to ensure that intelligent transport systems remain safe, interoperable and accessible. Beyond technological innovation, discussions emphasised that autonomous mobility should contribute to broader public policy objectives, including improved accessibility, road safety and environmental sustainability.
