Pradeep S Mehta, Secretary General of CUTS International, a pioneering global public policy research, advocacy, and networking non-governmental organisation, has been recognised with the prestigious Business World Social Impact Award 2023.
The award ceremony took place on September 6, 2023, in New Delhi, where Mr. Mehta was inducted into the esteemed BW Power list of Social Impact Leaders and Change Makers for his exceptional contributions to society.
“Receiving this award is truly an honour, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to BW Businessworld and the esteemed jury members for recognising the remarkable work that CUTS has been engaged in for the past 40 years.
“At CUTS, we take immense pride in our ability to nurture over 200 change-makers. When young individuals join us, we empower them to become catalysts for positive change wherever they choose to contribute, and that is a testament to our commitment to creating a better world” said Mehta while receiving the award.
During the event, Mehta also highlighted CUTS International’s ongoing global campaign for ‘Innovative Finance for Climate and the Planet’. The campaign seeks to establish a substantial Fund of Funds running into few trillions of dollars to provide vital support for global initiatives aimed at mitigating the detrimental impacts of climate change and biodiversity losses. By doing so, we aspire to secure a better future for humanity and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The BW Social Impact Awards, presented by BusinessWorld, was conceived to unite social welfare professionals and organisations across various domains, including Education, Global Public Health, Environment & Corporate Sustainability, Women Empowerment, Senior Citizens, Marine & Wildlife Conservation, Children, Hunger & Food Insecurity, Social & Economic Development, Gender Equality, Clean & Sustainable Energy, Integrated Community Development, and more.
As a ‘people’ award, BW Social Impact recognises individuals who have made a substantial difference through volunteering, establishing foundations, or contributing to corporate social responsibility initiatives within larger corporations. The judging criteria included evaluating leadership journeys, milestones achieved, challenges overcome, and the expansion and scale of operations.
For example, the iconic Mrs Rajashree Birla of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development was honoured with a BW LifeTime Achievement Award.
Mehta, an iconic figure in the field of social impact, was honoured with the BW Social Impact Award for his outstanding dedication and transformative work. The award recognises his unwavering dedication to instigate positive transformations within society by actively participating in addressing crucial societal requirements both nationally and internationally.
Mehta, is the founder Secretary General of CUTS International, an organisation founded in 1983 and that has expanded its reach to various global locations, including Nairobi, Lusaka, Hanoi, Accra, Geneva, and Washington DC.
Currently, Mehta serves as a Member of the WTO DG’s NGO Advisory Board for the third time and is actively engaged in the G20/B20’s Council on Africa’s Economic Integration, and the Steering Committee on Ecomark of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
He has also held advisory roles for esteemed organisations such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Government of India’s Board of Trade, and the Better Regulatory Advisory Group, among others. He has also been an honorary adviser to the Trade Ministers of India and Zambia.
Throughout his career, Mehta has been recognised for his unwavering commitment to promoting competition and consumer protection globally, receiving awards such as the M R Pai Award and the SKOCH Excellence Award. He has also been honoured with the Scindia School’s Madhav Award for Old Boy of Eminence.
