The project is expected to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Objective 1: Identification and documentation of the bottlenecks, trade processes and challenges, and possible solutions to transit trade in the BBIN region affecting working level officials, traders, custom house agents, local people’s representatives, local administration, local media, etc
  • Objective 2: Comprehensive documentation of stakeholder concerns and capacity gaps with regards to transit trade so that we have a better understanding on the socio-political implementation challenges for the BBIN MVA and the capacity building needs for different stakeholders including working level officials, traders, custom house agents, local people’s representatives, local administration, and local media.
  • Objective 3: Greater consensus among policy makers on the need for trade facilitation measures like the BBIN MVA, and understanding and buy-in of relevant international conventions at the national and state/province level, leading to enabling policy discourse and better implementation of the BBIN MVA in the long run.
  • Objective 4: Better capacity of traders, working level officials and other relevant stakeholders on the trade processes of transit trade and usefulness of the BBIN MVA, its protocols, and other enabling policies and conventions,. This will ultimately contribute to better capacity of working level officials to implement the BBIN MVA, its protocols, and other enabling policies and conventions and better capacity of traders and Custom House Agents (CHAs) to engage in transit trade.
  • Objective 5: Better understanding amongst local level and ground level players regarding the need, long term benefits and positive impact on local economic parameters and hence higher political ownership and buy-in for smooth implementation of the agreement and its protocols
