Summary

A five-year work programme with the overall objective of creating long-term capacity of civil society organisations and others to address trade and economic issues and their relationship with development and poverty reduction. It will provide upward and downward linkages with the grassroots to convey their views and concerns to policy makers at different levels and vice-versa and will create a base for Indian civil society’s participation and articulation on trade and economic issues. The programme will be conducted/coordinated by CUTS as a mother unit and in partnership with a number of civil society organisations based at the state/regional level.

An important component of the programme will be developing skills and knowledge on trade and economic issues and discussing grassroots concerns in the light of them through organising trainings for network members, series of workshops/dialogues and through outreach and information dissemination. The programme will enable, empower and facilitate the civil society organisations and others to analyse, articulate and advocate on trade and economic issues, create an informed society and thus help enhancing transparency and accountability in the system of economic governance.

Field research will also be conducted by the network members to address grassroots concerns on trade and economic issues from the point of view of development and poverty reduction that will result in documentation of grassroots concerns vis-à-vis economic issues.
