CUTS rallies children for green refrigerators
Children and their parents carrying banners and placards protested
the double standards being practised by multinationals producing refrigerators
for the consumption of the Indian consumer. ``CUTS feels that it's our duty to promote awareness amongst
consumers about the double standards being practised by multinational
companies like Samsung, Electrolux, etc, with respect to the use of
technology in the area of refrigeration, when it comes to producing
refrigerators in India and Europe,'' said Raghav Narsalay, policy analyst,
CUTS. ``These double standards need to be exposed because multinationals
are trying to promote their refrigerators as environment friendly under
the pretext of using only ozone depleting substance free-technology
and not using technology that would cause negligible global warning
and avoid ozone depletion simultaneously,'' added his colleagues Sandip
Teterwal and Saumya Tripathi. Interestingly, these manufacturers are producing refrigerators
(popularly known as Ecofrigs) using technology, which is ozone friendly
and more importantly has negligible global warning potential (currently
available in the form of hydrocarbon technology) for the consumption
of European consumers. |
