1. Promoting South-South civil society cooperation on trade and development.

 Emergence of a sustainable and broad-based civil society network, which is based on South-South cooperation on trade and development.

The functioning and outreach of the network

Sustainability of the network.

 

 

2. Fostering equity between and among the developed and developing countries.

International policies of the developed world reflect concerns about the developing countries.

 

Formulation of a southern agenda for trade and development and monitoring of its implementation

The ability of pushing forward the agenda and its acceptance among the international community through consensus.

 

3. Creating long-term capacity of civil society representatives of African countries to address the issues of equity and accountability vis-à-vis the linkages between trade and development.

 Formation of a core group of GATT/WTO practitioners who can take up future challenges on their own

The initiatives taken by the core group members while addressing issues of trade and development from the point of view of long-term economic development and social justice.

Capability of the network partners in identifying the elements of commonality between grassroots, national, regional and international concerns on trade and development issues.

2. Creating a base for south-south civil society cooperation on trade and development issues. 

Formulating networking strategy for South-South civil society cooperation on trade and development issues.

Placing the networking strategy for South-South civil society cooperation on trade and development among civil society representatives and members of the international trade community.

Acceptability of the networking strategy for South-South civil society cooperation among the civil society groups and members of the international trade community.

1. Enable, empower and facilitate civil society representatives to analyse, articulate and advocate South-South cooperation issues on trade and development.

Documentation on South-South cooperation issues on trade and development.

 

Regular debate and discussions among the civil society representatives on South-South cooperation issues on trade and development.

 

Existence and facilitation of an enabling environment for conducting dialogues and discussions.

2. Promote equity between and among the developed and developing countries through training and networking, advocacy and dialogues, and information dissemination and outreach.

Concerns of equity get reflected at different fora responsible for formulating policies regarding trade and development. 

Better profile of developing countries on matters relating to equity between and among nations, especially regarding trade and development issues.

Attitude of the international trade community and multilateral institutions in understanding issues related to equity.

3. Create an informed society and thus enhancing transparency and accountability in international trading and economic system.

GATT/WTO practitioners are well versed with grassroots, national, regional and international concern regarding trade and development issues.

More and more informed groups emerge and demand concrete measures pertaining to economic development and social justice.

Commitment on the part of GATT/WTO practitioners to continue in their endeavour for economic development and social justice.
