Minister, Regional Integration and Foreign Affairs, Ghana
spoke on the topic "Regional Integration as a Tool for
Poverty Reduction in West Africa" at ISSER Conference Hall,
University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana on August 26, 2013. This
lecture also marked the inauguration of the CUTS Centre in
Accra (CUTS Accra), the third office of CUTS in Africa after
Lusaka (Zambia) and Nairobi (Kenya).
The event was
chaired by Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor, University
of Ghana. The panellists included Dr. Toga Gayewea McIntosh,
Vice President, ECOWAS and Mr. Ishmael Yamson, Board Chair of
Standard Chartered Bank (Ghana).

Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC) spoke on the topic
"Regional Integration for Sustainable Development in the East African
Community" at Hilton Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya on August 19, 2013.
The event was chaired by Dr.
Mukhisa Kituyi, incoming Secretary General of the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The discussants included
Prof. Japser Okelo, the chair of the WTO Chairs Programme-Kenya; Mr. Lamin
Manneh, Chief Regional Integration Officer, African Development Bank; and
Mr. Frank Matsaert, Chief Executive Officer, Trade Mark East Africa.

Exposure Visit of Block Level Bal Panchayat Members

CUTS Centre for Human
Development (CUTS CHD), Chittorgarh is implementing a project entitled,
Stronger Voice to Excluded Children in Government & NGO Policies and
Programmes (IPAP) at six gram panchayats of Chittorgarh block of
Chittorgarh District of Rajasthan. The main objective of this programme is
socially excluded children (Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes) in 28
villages of Chittorgarh district in Rajasthan, benefit from the
development programmes, policies and schemes of the government, donors and
NGOs by end of December 2013.
In this context, with the aim of
entertaining, developing confidence and awareness among the children, an
exposure visit will be held at Child Line 1098-Bhilwara on August 17,
2013. Under IPAP project, such types of activities are being conducted on
a quarterly basis and good results are coming out. It will be a good
experience for children as they will learn new things.

CREW NRG-I Meeting

The NRG-I meeting in Zambia will
take place on August 9, 2013 in Lusaka. The meeting is organised jointly
with the country partner CUTS International Lusaka.
The meeting was attended by the NRG members constituted for providing
advisory role for the project activities in India. The aim of the meeting
was to discuss the outline and methodology of the Diagnostic Country
Report (DCR). Inputs were also taken to make the research methodology
country specific.
