Africa: Brics Trade and Economics Research
Network Newsletter
Allafrica, July 12, 2014
In November 2011, a group of five like-mentioned organisations from
among the BRICS group of countries came together in Shanghai, China
to establish the BRICS Trade & Economics Research Network. They are:
Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil; EcoAccord, Russia; CUTS
International, India; Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Center,
China; and South African Institute of International Affairs, South
Africa.
CUTS International has taken lead in producing a quarterly
newsletter of this Network, covering news on the BRICS group of
countries on issues such as trade, investment. Research and
networking activities of BRICS-TERN partners are also covered.
The cover story of the current issue titled "A New Global Financial
Architecture in the Making" states that BRICS countries have
garnered much attention over the last few months and the sixth BRICS
Summit will prove whether there is indeed a future for this country
grouping.
It is expected that at the July Summit the group of emerging
economies will have concluded all the preparatory work for setting
up the BRICS Development Bank and Contingency Reserve Arrangement (CRA).
